Alachua County Library District issued the following announcement.
I’m from Boston, Massachusetts, and around this time of year in Boston it snows! Those of you who have lived here in Florida your whole life may have never seen snow, but I can tell you it's a lot of fun to play with, especially when you’re a kid. Today, we're making fake snow, and I guarantee that, other than real snow, it'll be the next best thing for having a lot of fun. Below are three different fake snow recipes for you to try. Enjoy!
Recipe #1: Somewhat fluffy, good for packing into snowballs
Ingredients: 1) Baking soda, 2) Foam shaving cream
Pour baking soda into a large bowl.
Add foam shaving cream gradually, kneading by hand, until a fluffy consistency is achieved.
If the shaving cream is cold when you use it, the snow will feel cold, and thus even more real.
Recipe #2: Thick, foamy, and dense
Ingredients: 1) Cornstarch, 2) Hair conditioner
Again, start with the dry ingredient (cornstarch) and mix in the wet one (conditioner) until the consistency is desirable.
The snow will look most accurate if you use a white-colored conditioner. However, making blue snow, or some other fancy color (based on the color added to the conditioner) can be fun too. Many conditioners also have scents added, which can be fun.
Recipe #3: Powdery
Ingredients: 1) Baking soda, 2) Water
The trick to this recipe is to get it to bind together - which will only happen if you add a little bit of water at a time to the baking soda, and stir vigorously with a wisk or fork, or something that lets air bubbles into the mixture.
Finishing touches
If you're into it, you can add glitter to any of these recipes to make your snow sparkle! You can also add scented oils to make your snow smell nice!
