University of Florida issued the following announcement on Sept. 8.

Freshman Gator Abedallah Shelbayh continued to impress as he made his debut in the US Open Junior Championships in both singles and doubles this past week. Shelbayh became the first player from Jordan to ever compete at the US Open Juniors.

Shelbayh played his first match at the tournament on Sept. 6 when he was paired against No. 22-ranked junior player, Ozan Colak. Shelbayh, who sits at No. 34 in the ITF juniors rankings, put up an exciting match versus Colak, pulling out the victory in three sets with two going into a tiebreak.

In set one, the two players went at it, trading games back-and-forth until the first-set tiebreak when Shelbayh won, 7-6 (7-5). Colak would take the second set with a 6-3 score. The third set ended in a thrilling victory for Shelbayh after he won in another tiebreak, 7-6 (11-9).

Shelbayh's second-round match saw him slated against No. 10-ranked junior player, Viacheslav Bielinskyi. Shelbayh put up a battle versus the No. 7-seed, but Bielinskyi pulled out the win, 7-5, 6-4.

The next day, Shelbayh and doubles partner, Daniel Rincon, suited up to take on the American duo, Jack Anthrop and Benjamin Kittay, where they would fall in a tough battle, 4-6, 6-7 (4-7).

The Shelbayh/Rincon pairing has had a successful year, making it all the way to the doubles finals at Junior Wimbledon and also winning the doubles title at J1 Roehampton. They came into the tournament with a first-round bye and seeded at the No. 7 spot.
