UF College of Pharmacy issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.
Golnoosh Alipour-Haris, Pharm.D., M.S., a third-year graduate student in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy’s department of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy, was selected for the 2021 American Public Health Association, or APHA, Pharmacy Section Student Community Award. She received the award on Oct. 24, during APHA’s Annual Meeting and Expo.
Alipour-Haris’ main research interests are in health outcomes and patient-centered care studies. The award is through a project that provides preliminary support for training community health workers to partner with pharmacists in medication therapy management. These efforts address medication adherence barriers in chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes and hypercholesteremia.
“I have long admired the American Public Health Association for its commitment to public health,” Alipour-Haris said. “I’m incredibly honored to be counted among those striving to address public health issues and improve the well-being of communities.”
The APHA Pharmacy Section Student Community Award was established in 2020 and recognizes outstanding achievements carried out by a student to address the social determinants of health within a community through public health practice, community-based participatory research, collaborative community partnerships, asset-based community development or streamlined community service.
Alipour-Haris is mentored by Richard Segal, R.Ph., Ph.D., M.S., a professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy, and Joshua Brown, Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.S., an assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy.
