City of Gainesville issued the following announcement on Nov. 2.
The City of Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area is exploring opportunities to build affordable housing on city-owned property in the Pleasant Street neighborhood, and invites neighbors to attend an upcoming neighborhood workshop.
Conversations will center around these questions: “Who needs housing?” and “What is affordable?” in the Pleasant Street neighborhood.
When: Sunday, Nov. 7 from 3-5 p.m. or Wednesday, Nov. 10 from 5-7 p.m.
Where: 414 NW Fifth Ave. (development site)
Both workshops will include the same information and activities. These workshops are scheduled outdoors, and masks and social distancing are strongly encouraged. In the event of severe weather, the workshop(s) will be rescheduled.
The goal of the workshop is to identify "how might we create a redevelopment strategy for city-owned land in the Pleasant Street neighborhood that ensures existing neighbors, as well as those with low- and moderate- incomes, and those marginalized based on race and ethnicity will share in the benefits of neighborhood growth?’"
