Santa Fe College issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo and SF Police Department teamed up for the second year in a row to hold a canned food drive throughout October. Thanks to partners across
the college and around the community, the “Ghosts, Goblins and Groceries Food Drive” wrapped up with a total of 5,958 nonperishable food items totaling around 6000 pounds
donated to Saints Food Share at SF and Catholic Charities of Gainesville, exceeding our goal of 5000!
Campus USA was a major sponsor, not only collecting food, but donating an additional $1500 to the drive to purchase additional items. Gator BTW also hosted a Spirit Week,
donating $250 to the food drive. Special thanks goes to Kiss 105.3 for radio time to get the word out about the drive.
Donation boxes were set up across the Northwest Campus, many of the SF centers and at various businesses across the area. The items collected will go to help food-insecure
people in our community. Even before the pandemic, as many as one out of every five people, and one of every four children in the community did not have reliable access to food.
Those numbers have increased throughout the pandemic, and these donations come at a critical time to support families around the holidays.
The entire SF family thanks everyone who worked to make Ghosts, Goblins and Groceries a success.
