With Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s just days away, make the season happy and bright with City of Gainesville holiday events!
For those interested in an evening of history and culture, consider attending A History of Kwanzaa with Kali Blount. The presentation will take place at the A. Quinn Jones Museum & Cultural Center on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m.
Neighbors are invited to enjoy festive light displays at city locations through the end of the year at Bo Diddley Plaza, City Hall Plaza or the Historic Thomas Center & Gardens. If you’re in search of an imaginary winter wonderland, stroll the paths illuminated by more than 250,000 LED lights at Depot Park. The play area closes at sunset, restrooms close at 8:30 p.m., and the park closes at 11:30 p.m.
Depot Park is also the place for Sparks in the Park on New Year’s Eve. Beginning at 5 p.m., guests are invited to bring chairs or blankets to watch the sun go down on 2022 for the last time while enjoying a DJ-hosted, family-friendly dance party. The evening concludes with a 20-minute musically choreographed fireworks spectacular over the main pond at 6:30 p.m.
Following the fireworks show, it’s time to head toward Bo Diddley Plaza at 111 E. University Ave., where the Downtown Countdown kicks off at 9 p.m. and continues until 12:30 a.m. Featuring live music from 24-7 Band and Jackquelyn Graham, the plaza is right in the midst of Gainesville’s exceptional downtown establishments and makes for a bright and safe place to join neighbors ringing in the New Year!
