FOIA Request to Santa Fe College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in educational institutions, NC Florida News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Santa Fe College. The request seeks detailed information about the presence and support of Chinese National students at the college.
Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If privacy laws protect specific details, we have asked for a total count of these students, broken down by department. Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
Furthermore, we have requested details regarding any recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. This includes identifying which scholarships from our second request would satisfy this inquiry if applicable.
Our request also extends to policies or procedures that describe how Santa Fe College monitors its students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard the institution's intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of NC Florida News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency, we believe access to these records is crucial for fulfilling our journalistic responsibilities. We have also requested a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information to the public.
