CITY OF GAINESVILLE: Galleries at the Historic Thomas Center to Host 2020 Showcasing Student Art – K-12 Exhibition

Exihibits

City of Gainesville issued the following announcement on Jan. 2

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is pleased to announce the opening of the 2020 Showcasing Student Art – K-12 Exhibition. This exhibition is presented by the Alachua County Public Schools’ Visual Arts Program, and is scheduled to run from Friday, Jan. 31 through Friday, March 6, 2020 in the Doris Bardon Gallery.

The exhibition includes 102 works of art by 99 students, who were taught by 47 teachers at 33 schools. During the fall and winter of this school year, teachers have guided and encouraged Alachua County secondary school art students to create the works on display from a variety of media.

The Alachua County Public Schools’ Visual Arts Showcasing Program is designed to share the excellence of student art with the community. “This is the first of two annual exhibitions of student artwork coming out of the Alachua County Public Schools that the galleries present,” says Russell Etling, the city’s cultural affairs manager. “We love to see how these young artists begin coming into their own creatively and how they embrace the new skills they acquire from their fine instructors.”

The exhibition is presented with the assistance of the Thomas Center Associates, Picture This! Frameshop & Gallery and James Wilson Wildlife Drawings.
