City of Gainesville recently issued the following announcement.
The swearing in of Commissioner-elect Cynthia Chestnut is scheduled before the start of the next Gainesville city commission meeting.
When: Thursday, Feb. 17 at 9 a.m.
Where: On the steps of City Hall, 200 E. University Ave.
The Honorable Gloria Walker of the Eighth Judicial Circuit will administer the oath of office to Commissioner-elect Cynthia Chestnut. Neighbors throughout the city’s four districts elected Chestnut in January to the at-large seat on the commission.
Beginning this year, Gainesville city commissioners will be elected to serve 4-year terms, with elections every two years.
The event is open to the public, but neighbors are encouraged to view the livestream on the city’s Facebook page. To help ensure public health and safety, neighbors are asked to practice social distancing at the event.
