A prescribed burn is scheduled for today (July 18) weather and site conditions permitting, at Morningside Nature Center, 3540 E. University Ave. beginning at 10AM and ending before 5PM. This is an ecological fuel reduction burn, which will be conducted with support from the Florida Forest Service. The burn will be conducted in the restoration area of the property, and all public access to the northern portion of the park will be prohibited.
In an effort to promote public safety, and to restore and maintain the health of our natural resources, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs staff work closely with the Florida Forest Service, the University of Florida, Alachua County Fire Rescue, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, as well as the Gainesville Police Department and Gainesville Fire Rescue.
