Gainesville presents Spanish-English town hall about city services and programs

Gainesville City Commissioner and Mayor Pro-tem Reina Saco will host a one-hour Spanish-English telephone town hall meeting for neighbors. The town hall will be presented in Spanish and be simultaneously translated into English. The event is designed to familiarize neighbors with the City’s many services and programs.

When: 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13

Where: Gainesville City Hall, 200 E. University Avenue

Commissioner Saco, a native Spanish speaker, will be joined in the community dialogue by Spanish-speaking representatives from the Office of Equity and Inclusion; Gainesville Fire Rescue; Gainesville Police Department; Gainesville Regional Utilities; Code Enforcement; Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs; and the Regional Transit System (RTS).

All neighbors are invited to participate, and are asked to register in advance to receive automatic reminder notifications for the event.

During the town hall, neighbors whose language preference is Spanish will be able listen in or ask questions by dialing 1-888-400-9342. Please register to receive a reminder call to participate in Spanish.

Neighbors whose language preference is English will be able to hear the simultaneous translation of the town hall via Zoom, and to submit questions for the panelists via the Zoom chat. Please register to receive a Zoom link for the English simulcast.

Gainesville city commissioners have hosted numerous town hall events during the past several years that were translated into Spanish. This is the first town hall delivered in Spanish with simultaneous English translation. The town hall supports the City’s vision of equity and inclusion for all to services necessary for daily living.

The event is free and open to the public but limited seating on-site will be available for the event. The town hall will be livestreamed on Facebook, the City of Gainesville website and on COX Cable Channel 12, and will be archived online.
